Disaster Preparedness

While terrorism is a hot topic of late, all families should be prepared for a disaster, this could include any of the following natural events:

Flooding
Tornadoes

Ice Storms
Snow storms

They can also include these man made disasters:

Chemical tanker spill or accidental chemical release
Nuclear emergency
Large fire

Terrorism

For the most part very little can be done to prevent any of the above mentioned events from happening, but much can be done to prepare yourself and your family.

One of the best ways to stay informed to events near your is with a All Hazard Weather Radio

Along with practicing E.D.I.T.H. (Exit Drills In The Home) a family should have a basic plan for dealing with a disaster, some of the basics for this would include:
Possible Disasters that could occur in your area. How will your community officials alert you?
A Family Meeting Place Creating a disaster supply kit
How to turn off major utilities in your home Special needs of infant/children and the elderly

Rather the reprint some of the great information that is available through the internet we will provide several links on this page that has some pertinent information.
